Is health insurance available in all countries?

There are some countries where we can’t provide health insurance. The rules are a bit different for new members and existing members.

New members
You can’t take out health insurance with us if you live in one of the countries listed below.

Iran, Libya, North Korea, South Sudan, Switzerland, Syria, Yemen, Republic of Ireland, United States of America, Venezuela, Lebanon, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus.

Our online quote tool won’t give you a quote if you select one of these countries as your countries of residence.

Existing members
If you already have health insurance with William Russell, we can’t renew your health insurance plan if you move to one of the following countries.

Iran, Libya, North Korea, South Sudan, Switzerland, Syria, Yemen, Republic of Ireland.

Our plans are annual, so once your coverage period ends we won’t renew your plan.

Why are there problems with purchasing health insurance in these countries?
In some cases, it’s clear why we can’t provide insurance. Sanctions prevent us from offering coverage in countries like Iran and Libya. However, you may wonder why we can’t provide insurance in seemingly safe countries like Switzerland and Ireland. The reason is compliance. The governments of Switzerland and Ireland have specific requirements for health insurance that our plans don’t meet. As for the United States, we’ve never operated there because the health insurance market is very complex. We simply aren’t set up to do business in the US.
