With nearly 30 years of experience in international health insurance, life, Teresa Wighton brings both strategic insight and hands-on leadership to her role as Commercial Director at William Russell.
She has held senior positions at some of the world’s leading insurers—including Aviva, Bupa Global, and Cigna—and is known in the industry for her commercial acumen, collaborative approach, and commitment to helping expats and international businesses access simpler, fairer protection.
Drawing on her deep expertise in international health insurance, she now oversees the full commercial portfolio across health, life, and income protection—with a particular focus on designing solutions for high-net-worth individuals (HNWI), small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), and globally distributed teams.
Since joining William Russell as Commercial Director in 2024, Teresa has taken a central role in driving strategic growth and product innovation across the company’s global footprint.
She leads commercial strategy from William Russell’s regional offices in the UK, Brussels, Dubai, and Jakarta—supporting broker and client partnerships across all global markets. Her remit includes overseeing cross-functional teams focused on new business development, broker engagement, and client retention.
Working closely with the leadership team, Teresa has played a key role in shaping new products that meet the needs of today’s globally mobile individuals and organisations. She continues to support the company’s expansion into new markets and geographies, helping William Russell stay ahead of emerging customer needs in international insurance.
She reports directly to Founder and Managing Director Inez Cooper, and is part of the company’s Senior Management Team.

Beyond work, Teresa enjoys a challenge. She once walked the entire 100-mile South Downs Way in just over 6 days, studied wine to diploma level with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (a self-proclaimed “qualified wine snob”), and even braved a zip wire from St Paul’s Cathedral for charity. She brings the same energy and curiosity to her work and to building inclusive, high-performing teams that thrive across borders.
