Cover options for different requirements & budgets

An area of cover is the geographic limits of our health insurance plans. We have 4 areas of cover for our members in Africa, ranging from worldwide to Africa only. Find out more below.

Worldwide cover, with restricted cover in the United States of America

We will cover you in the United States of America for temporary trips of up to 45 days’ duration from the date on which you enter the country. There’s no limit to the number of temporary trips you can make to the United States of America during any one period of cover.

The overall maximum amount we will pay in respect of treatment and care you receive in the United States of America is US$50,000 or £33,000 or €37,500 per insured person, per period of cover. Within this amount, we will only pay for eligible accident & emergency treatment of a condition that you have not previously suffered from prior to commencing your temporary trip.

We do not cover emergency evacuation to, from or within the United States of America.

Worldwide cover, excluding the United States of America and with restricted cover in the following countries and regions:

United Kingdom, all countries in the European Economic Area, Andorra, the Channel Islands, Gibraltar, Greenland, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland, the UAE, Singapore, Thailand (treatment is only restricted within the Bumrungrad Hospital and Bangkok Hospital Group facilities), China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the Caribbean countries and islands.

When you travel to one of these countries and regions, we will only pay for accident & emergency treatment. The maximum we will pay in respect of treatment you receive in any of these countries and regions is US$100,000 or £66,000 or €75,000 per period of cover.

You have no cover in the United States of America.

Cover in Africa and the Indian Subcontinent, with restricted cover everywhere else.

When you travel outside of Africa or the Indian Subcontinent, we will only pay for accident & emergency treatment. The maximum we will pay in respect of treatment you receive outside of Africa and the Indian Subcontinent is US$100,000 or £66,000 or €75,000 per period of cover.

You have no cover in the United States of America.

Cover in Africa and the Indian Subcontinent, with restricted cover in South Africa and all other countries and regions.

When you travel outside of Africa or the Indian Subcontinent, we will only cover you for accident & emergency treatment. The maximum we will pay in respect of treatment you receive outside of Africa is US$100,000 or £66,000 or €75,000 per period of cover.

If you travel to South Africa, we will only cover you for accident & emergency treatment. The maximum we will pay in respect of treatment you receive in South Africa is US$100,000 or £66,000 or €75,000 per period of cover.

You have no cover in the United States of America.

Frequently asked questions

No. Zone 1 comes with limited cover for accident & emergency treatment in the USA. There is an option that gives additional cover in the USA (called USA-45), but this is available only with Zone 1.

Zones 4 & 5 are the cheapest areas of cover for members living in Africa.

  • With Zone 4, members can save up to 30% compared to Zone 1.
  • With Zone 5, members can save up to 40% compared to Zone 1

No. Regardless of which area of cover a member living in Africa chooses, they will have full cover for evacuations from within Africa.

A trip for business and/or recreational purposes, which has a defined return date, and is for a period of no more than 90 days.

A member might need accident & emergency treatment if they suffer an unexpected illness or injury. Accident & emergency treatment is the opposite to elective treatment, which is generally treatment that the member has planned

Yes. If a member wishes to downgrade their area of cover, they just need to email their usual adviser at William Russell (or contact@william-russell.com). If a member wishes to upgrade their area of cover, they’ll need to submit an application and we may medically underwrite the upgrade.
