The Global Health plans will cover your employees anywhere in the world, so they will be free to choose where they receive medical treatment. Since treatment in the USA is particularly expensive, we have made USA cover optional, so you don’t have to pay for cover your employees don’t need.

Global Travel Plan

For little extra cost you can add the optional Global Travel plan, which provides cover for your employees' baggage and personal effects, cancellation, curtailment, and legal liability while they are travelling.

Employees will also be covered during trips within their country of residence when a trip is pre-booked and involves at least two nights of paid accommodation.

Personal Accident Plan

The low-cost optional Personal Accident plan is available to your employees and their partners when you take out a Global Health plan.

The Personal Accident plan will pay a lump sum benefit to your employee's listed beneficiary in the event of their death as a result of an accident. The plan will also pay a lump-sum benefit if they were to lose, or lose the use of, one or more limbs, or one or both eyes, or be otherwise permanently disabled in an accident.

Direct Billing

For employees resident in China and Hong Kong, our plans come with the option of direct settlement for out-patient treatment.

This means we will guarantee payment when your employees visit a medical facility. We will settle their bill directly with the facility, so that they do not have to pay for any expensive medical treatment.


On presentation of our membership card at a medical facility in China or Hong Kong, they will receive treatment for eligible routine and minor conditions without having to pay any bills or submit a claim form to us.

Cover in the USA

The Global Health plans do not provide cover in the USA. However, the following options are available to employees on the Elite plans.

Worldwide cover with USA (up to $100,000 per period of cover)
Benefit from USA cover during temporary trips* of not more than 45 days for business or pleasure. The maximum amount we will pay in respect of treatment received in the USA is $100,000 in any one period of cover.

Worldwide cover with USA PLUS (up to $250,000 per period of cover)
Benefit from USA cover during temporary trips* of not more than 90 days for business or pleasure. The maximum amount we will pay in respect of treatment received in the USA is $250,000 in any one period of cover.

*A temporary trip is a trip your employees take to the USA for business or pleasure of not more than 45 or 90 days. Any trip longer than the 45 or 90 days is not a temporary trip and will not be covered by this optional benefit.

Semi-Private Room

All Global Health Elite plans offer private room accommodation when your employees are admitted to hospital.

For employees resident in Hong Kong, you can elect to have their treatment in a semi-private room and receive a discount on their premiums.

    The Global Health plans are portable, wherever your employees are in the world. So if they need to change their country of residence at short notice, or if they need to return home temporarily, we can continue their cover.

  • Pre-existing conditions

    The Global Health plan will not cover medical conditions your employees have suffered from, or been treated for, before their plan commenced, unless they have disclosed full details of their condition, and we have agreed to cover it.

  • 30-day money back guarantee

    If you're unhappy with anything at all, we'll refund your premium under our 30-day money back guarantee, provided no claim has been made.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for a Global Health plan for my business?

You can download an application form from our Document Library. You can print and return your completed form to sales@william-russell.com, or you can fax it to +44 1276 486466.

On receipt of an application form, most companies can have cover in force within 48 hours. Once you have submitted your application, one of our insurance professionals will be in touch.

Do my employees need to have a medical?

No. However, employees will need to answer some health questions on their application forms. They must give full, complete and accurate answers to these questions, as we rely on the information they give us to process the application.

How can premiums be paid?

All of your premium must be paid from one source.

If you pay your premium annually, you can pay by credit or debit card, bank transfer, or cheque.

If you pay your premiums half-yearly, quarterly or monthly, you must pay by credit or debit card, or, if you are paying in GBP Sterling from a UK bank account, you can pay by direct debit.

Our plans are available in US Dollars, Sterling and Euros.

Which credit and debit cards do you accept?

We accept VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, Switch, Visa Delta, and Maestro.

Is it more cost-effective to pay monthly or annually?

You can save around 5% on your premium by paying annually.

What is the maximum age limit for applications?

Employees must be under age 70 when they apply for a Global Health plan, but once they have joined there is no age limit.

We can continue to renew your plan for as long as you require cover for your employees.

For how long will the Global Health plan last?

The Global Health plans are annually renewable.

We can offer you renewal for as long as you require cover, regardless of your employees' claims or medical experience while they are customers with us.

What documents will my employees receive from William Russell?

As soon as your plan is in force, we will send your employees their plan documents.

Will my employees receive a membership card?

Yes.

Do you cover employees who are based in their country of nationality?

Yes. If at least half of your employees live outside their country of nationality, we will be able to offer cover.

What happens if an employee needs to move country?

The Global Health plans are portable and worldwide. So if an employees needs to change his/her country of residence at short notice, or if he/she needs to return home temporarily, we can continue cover.

Do you cover professional sportspeople?

We are unable to cover injury or illness arising from participation in any kind of professional sport. In addition, we do not offer cover for any injury or illness arising in participation from any form of racing (amateur or professional) that involves the use of a motorised vehicle.

How would I cancel my plan?

We think you'll like being a customer of William Russell.

If you wish to cancel your plan with us, however, you can do so at any time by sending an email to enquiries@william-russell.com. Alternatively, you can write to us. If your employees have not claimed, we will offer a pro rata refund on the remainder of your premium.
