Creating a strong password

We have recently partnered with The Defence Works, an award-winning provider of GCHQ-accredited security awareness training to create a series of guides to share best practices when it comes to keeping personal data, safe. Find out more below…

Set a strong password and make it harder for your data to be accessed:

You’d be surprised how many people still have weak passwords that are easy to guess – for example; 123456, Letmein, or using their familyname and birthyear – e.g. Smith1981.

Set a strong password and make it harder for your data to be accessed:

William Russell Accident Benefit  Passwords can be troublesome to remember, but did you know there’s a much better way? Think about creating a “pass-phrase” instead of a password. The best way to do this is think of something memorable to you, but something that isn’t obvious – such as a funny memory – and then create three random words. For example, if you’ve always wanted to be a lead singer in a band, why not make your password “SingingWishLeader”. This will be much harder for a criminal to crack and much easier to remember!

William Russell Accident Benefit  You should never re-use a password

William Russell Accident Benefit  Passwords should be unique and difficult for someone else to guess – for example do not use your pets name or your birthday

William Russell Accident Benefit  You should never share your full passwords – e.g. your bank will only ever ask you for a couple of characters from your password

William Russell Accident Benefit  Use different passwords for different accounts – this will protect your other information should one password be compromised.
