The Global Life plan covers death by illness and accident. You can increase the amount of cover you have in respect of an accident by applying for the optional Accident benefit. The Accident benefit provides an additional cash lump sum if you die or if you suffer severe disablement as a result of an accident.
How much additional accident cover can I buy?
The amount of Accident benefit must not exceed the amount of your Global Life benefit. So, you may apply for Accident benefit equal to or less than your Global Life plan cover, subject to a maximum of £300,000 or $500,000 or €500,000 or AED 1,835,000. The total combined amount of your Global Life and Accident benefit cannot exceed £900,000 or $1,500,000 or €1,200,000 or AED 5,505,000.
Please note, if you are also applying for a Global Income Protection plan, the amount of Accident benefit you can apply for is restricted to £200,000 or $335,000 or €335,000 or AED 1,229,000.
What happens if I die as a result of an accident?
If you die as a result of an accident, the additional Accident benefit will be paid as a lump sum to your beneficiaries along with your Global Life plan benefit.
What happens if I am permanently disabled as a result of an accident?You will receive your full Accident benefit if you suffer a permanent disability such as the loss or loss of use of both legs, both feet, one arm and one leg, your sight, your speech or your hearing.
You will receive a percentage of your Accident benefit if an accident leaves you with a less severe permanent disability. The percentage applied will depend upon the severity of your disability.
