When Veronique Fitzner’s and Markus Thuere’s twin boys were born five weeks prematurely in Vietnam, their survival was put at 50/50.

Immediately after their birth, Yannick needed advanced resuscitation and Felix needed oxygen to combat a form of pneumonia. The family were transferred to a state hospital with a neonatal intensive care unit, which was overcrowded and unhygienic with rats running across the floor and offering very limited access to the newborn twins.
